Risk based inspections (RBI) of FLNG Hull structure provide an optimum solution to maintain the structural integrity of FLNG Hull structure. Implementing the methodology provides strategic planning for maintenance by reducing the anticipated risk. Hence, ensuring uninterrupted service of the FLNG carrier throughout the service life.

This paper presents a systematic approach for maintenance of the integrity of FLNG Hull. The methodology offers a procedure to acquire necessary design data, inspection plans, operational and maintenance records to maintain the integrity. RBI process is used for FLNG in order to investigate all degradation and failure mechanisms. The RBI will ensure that inspection and monitoring activities will be concentrated on structural critical elements (SCE) that contribute the most to the risk. These structures will be identified by qualitative and semi-quantitative risk assessment methods.

The methodology requires all necessary data e.g. design, operation, inspection and maintenance. All components are tagged for identification purpose. Different possible damage mechanisms are identified. Qualitative Risk Assessment are performed along with Reliability Analysis. Risk is evaluated based on 5×5 PETRONAS HSE Risk Matrix. A practical and optimum risk based inspection framework is prepared prioritizing maintenance and repair work. The whole process is in line to meet all the integrity requirements from stability for continuous operations.

The methodology offers optimum solution to ensure the integrity of FLNG hull during the service life is intact for continuous operation.
