Abstract

Lateral buckling and pipeline walking are two of the key aspects in the design of HPHT flowlines. This paper presents the design methodology and the mitigation measures developed for the production flowlines in the Ichthys Gas Field.

Lateral buckling is mitigated using a controlled buckling approach, with buckle initiator sleepers at regular spacing. Pipeline walking is mitigated by introducing additional axial restraint at the points in between the sleepers using concrete mattresses.
