Abstract

A new type of ocean platforms is discussed in this paper. The uniqueness of this concept is that its hull is restrained such that any of the hull motions will be resisted by the axial stiffness of moorings. As a result, the platform is essentially motionless. Because of the superb motion characteristics, it can have many applications when a stationary platform is required, such as an oil producing platform in the partially ice-locked arctic environment or a host structure for wind turbines in deeper water.
