Abstract

Buried pipelines in permafrost may undergo thaw settlement over a period of time. It depends on the type of soil. The innovative technology outlined in this paper solves the problem of thaw settlement of buried pipelines. With this technology expensive soil exploration will not be needed. Using a very thin walled secondary pipe in between two separate layers of insulations will effectively divert any heat escaping through the first layer of insulation in a direction away from the permafrost.
