Abstract

The Arctic is becoming increasingly important in securing energy supplies for the future, notwithstanding the economic, environmental and social challenge. Finding and extracting oil and gas in the Arctic and Subarctic regions is itself challenging due to extreme temperatures, ice conditions, remoteness and a sensitive natural environment.

This paper is based on experiences from delivering substructures for oil and gas production in arctic locations and recent concept development for all year exploration drilling and production in new arctic areas. Parameters and challenges driving solutions for ice resistant, arctic fixed platforms will be discussed and how these are handled in design and execution planning.
