Layout optimization is a key activity to improve project profitability. Energy production, project costs, environmental constrains and government guidelines (shipping navigation requirements) influence layout design.
Different layout optimization strategies are available. In this work two layout approaches are proposed and compared on an energy basis with the aim of exploring possible improvements useful for both developers and governments: the innovative edge-packing and the traditional regular grid approach.
12 different wind farm scenarios are evaluated varying installed capacity, capacity density and number of wind turbines. For each scenario both traditional grid and edge-packing layout approaches are applied and a comparative analysis is performed.
