Abstract

A new sequence of the stratigraphic and palaeogeographic setting of the development of the Plio-Pleistocene section in the North Idku Block based upon the integration of seismic and well data (logs, lithology and biostratgraphy) was established (Downie, B; 2000). Accordingly, six major sequences, from NP60 (oldest) to NP0 (youngest), had been recognized and mapped. In some places, the subdivision of these sequences has proved possible (Fig 2). Late NP50 times, where the sandy delta top sediments, are identified to the southeast of the study area, though the greater part of the block remained in the deep water. The basin style and deposition are predominantly of shelf deposits across the block.
