ABSTRACT

The huge amount of projects worldwide for the construction of offshore structures for oil & gas industry or for wind energy leads to a constant search for new solutions and concepts. Steel tubular piles are preferred for marine structures where they can be fabricated and normally driven in large diameters to resist the lateral forces in deep-water structures. Therefore, jacket or mono-piled structures are still the most common form of fixed offshore oil platform or for offshore wind farm structures, with the design evolving gradually from their first use for the shallow offshore fields in the Gulf of Mexico, and are now used in water depths of up to 400 m. The structures are fixed to the seabed by piles inserted through sleeves attached to the jacket, with the piles eventually grouted to the sleeves after installation. However, there are many conditions where the pile drivability may be jeopardized due to several reasons. BAUER Maschinen GmbH is currently researching and developing new solutions to support the offshore piles installation.
