The experience has shown that the optimal parameters of the BHA within the 16" phase are not really achieved, especially the bit stability. Within this context, the operator has decided to replace the near bit Stabiliser by a new tool, NV400, in the aim of minimizing lateral vibrations as well as ensuring a good borehole quality by minimizing the spiral forms in the wellbore. Before the tool is integrated within the BHA of the chosen well, a preliminary study of a break even analysis has been carried out to set a minimum target in terms of ROP that makes the tool cost effective. This study describes also the application environment where the tool was run and shows how much improvement has been realised regarding the target that was set. Finally, the paper analyses the impact of using this tool on drilling performance and more importantly on drilling cost by making a performance comparison with offset wells and demonstrates how the performance improvement in terms of ROP is highly affected by vibrations
