ABSTRACT:

The environmental impact due to the dredging of a large volume of sea-bottom sediments for the construction of a marine terminal in the Monfalcone Port has been evaluated by the use of two coupled 3D numerical models: a model for hydrodynamic circulation due to tidal and wind forcing and an advective-dispersive model including a biochemical module for the spatial and time evolution of suspended solids, pollutants and biochemical quantities (i.e. nutrients, phytoplankton, zooplankton, oxygen) concentrations. Different scenarios resulting from the use of different dredging vessels and/or different meteomarine conditions have been considered
