A new halite salt block inhibitor for matrix squeeze application has been developed and field-tested successfully. The new salt block inhibitor is designed for formation displacement squeeze application to inhibit halite (sodium chloride) down-hole salt deposition, thereby eliminating or at least significantly reducing the need for potentially frequent periodic water wash salt block removal treatments. Periodic salt wash treatments can result in significant operation costs, especially offshore, and substantial loss or deferment of production. This paper summarizes the successful results of the first matrix squeeze treatment application of the new salt block conducted offshore - in a deep water Gulf of Mexico oil well completion.
