WW-MEDATLAS is a project sponsored by the Italian, French and Greek Navies, with the aim to produce a reliable, long-term atlas of the wind and wave conditions in the Mediterranean Sea. Numerical models, combined with extensive satellite data, have provided one decade of information on which to base the statistics for the atlas. The model data have been obtained from the archive of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts. The reference data have been those measured from the ERS1-2 and Topex, satellites. The statistics have been evaluated for grid points at 0.5 degree interval for the whole basin. Best-fits between the corresponding model and satellite data have allowed to evaluate correction coefficients, for wind and waves, for each single point. Ten year long calibrated time series have been obtained for the whole Mediterranean Sea.
