IDUN is a software based multiphase metering program that has been installed on offshore fields since 1995. IDUN is a simulation program that calculates flow rates from interpretation of sensor readings at various points along the production path. Typically, downhole and upstream/downstream wellhead choke pressure and temperature sensor readings are used. Accurate IDUN rate predictions depend on operational sensor reading accuracy. Malfunctioning of sensors have a detrimental effect on the IDUN rate calculations. Unsuccessful IDUN installations can be tracked back to malfunctioning of vital sensors. Recent development has focused on improving the IDUN accuracy and robustness, by constructing redundant sensor configurations where also other measurement points than pressure and temperature are used. This includes a momentum probe and differential pressure units which gives useful information about the energy within the flow stream.
