This paper summarizes five of the several items which constitute a research program carried on in PETROBRAS Research Center aiming the optimization of extended reach well drilling in deepwater environments. Major items described include the development of a risk analysis tool for well design which ensures well quality achievement; the optimization of ERW circulation using a time dependent simulator; The evaluation and modeling of rotation effects on solids re-suspension and their effects on torque & drag parameters and the optimization of drilling fluid systems regarding lubricity and friction losses reduction.
