Abstract
The need for a stable reference electrode is important for potentiometric-based measurements that are important to corrosion. Examples include pH and chloride concentration. Traditional reference electrodes are not always suitable for every monitoring situation due to longevity, maintenance, and fragility concerns. In these situations, pseudo reference electrodes are used. In selecting a suitable pseudo reference electrode, several challenges exist including ensuring long term stability and the ability to be used in a wide range of environmental conditions. In this work, several alternative materials are examined for use as pseudo reference electrodes.
