Abstract

The corrosion resistance of Ni-base weld overlays including Ni-Cr-Fe, Ni-Cr-Mo and Ni-Mo alloys was evaluated in immersion tests in the 80 wt.% H2SO4 at 150 0C (302 0F) for 48 hours. Test results in terms of corrosion rates based on the mass loss data are presented. Internal corrosion attack was also evaluated by metallurgical cross-sectional examination. The test results suggested that the weld overlay of the Ni-Mo alloy UNS N10675 could potentially provide adequate corrosion protection in such a concentrated acid solution at temperatures up to 150 0C (302 0F). Long-term tests, however, are required to further characterize the corrosion behavior of this weld overlay.
