Abstract
Oilfields that have limited subsea umbilicals necessitate the use of multifunctional products to maintain the field’s integrity and mitigate any flow assurance and scale challenges. However, it is often the case that the active chemicals in combined products that are used to treat scale and corrosion can interact during long - term storage. This interaction causes the efficacy of the product to decrease over time and results in the product having a reduced shelf life. As a consequence it may be necessary to inject a product above its optimum dose rate, or worse, a product could be injected that does not perform its intended role.
A novel, environmentally acceptable combined corrosion and scale inhibitor containing fully mutually compatible actives has been developed that is effective against calcite scale and also mitigates CO2 corrosion. Furthermore, the efficacy of the product is not reduced by long-term exposure to the chemical injection temperature
By developing mutually compatible products and optimizing their performance, improved efficacy can lead to less overall chemical usage and improved environmental implications.
