Because of the Alberta Energy Regulator's minifractures test requirements on thermal or polymer-injection projects as part of the licensing process, a pressure-transient-analysis (PTA) based interpretation approach using field minifracture data can reduce the ambiguities and incorrect interpretations brought on by traditional approaches. Understanding that maximum operating injection pressure for injection wells has a significant impact on the economics of any given project, the study highlighted in this paper establishes a physics-based interpretation method that covers all injection/falloff minifracture tests.
