The purpose of the paper is to bring data on uplift pressures at the base and in discontinuities of preferential flow within the rock foundations of seven brazilian dams, involving 16 concrete gravity structures. Dams were built within the last 20 years and are in operation for 3 to 15 years. All rock foundations are basalts with their typical sequence of flows with sub-horizontal contacts and joints that represent preferential paths of flow. All dams were built in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and belong to the Companhia Energética de São Paulo. The authors are indebited to CESP for the possibility of publishing this data.
The paper includes data on uplift, measurements of flow, consideration of the nature of flow, design criteria, and recommendations on foundation treatment.
