SUMMARY

An approach to the development of Geomechanical Models for foundations of concrete dams, with a discussion of the problems related to the interpretation and extrapolation of the geomechanical data relevant to the models, is presented.

Applications of the proposed approach to three dams are presented: Itaipu, on Parana River; Tucurui, on Tocantins River, and Salto da DiVisa, on Jequitinhonha River, all located in Brazil.
