The mining and geological conditions are characterized. There is also presented the method of mining the coal seams under the roofs composed of rigid sandstones and conglomerates by strike longwall system with strip packing of the stone worked in the roof or floor of the longwall face and rock fall hazards occurring when using this system. The tests on physical-mechanical and hydrogeological properties of sandstones composing the roof of a seam and the tests on an effect of the water saturation of these rocks on a change of their mechanical properties are presented. A project of mining with caving with water infusion into roof strata and the run of mining operation in the coal seams under the watered roof rocks and results obtained are discussed.
