Summary
The increasing depths of open-pit mines require the solution of a number of slope stability problems. The considerable exposure of the highwalls, the influence of macro-defects in the rock massif, a considerable stress level here are some of the factors which cause that in these conditions the naturally complex stability problems acquire a new meaning. Destructive influence on the stability of highwalls may be exerted in such cases by blasting of large explosive charges. The action of the seismic effect must be taken into consideration as one of the numerous direct or indirect causes which may bring about the disturbance of the open-pit sides.
