Abstract

Stability of coalmine tunnels passing through dense faults is affected by a number of factors including high tectonic stress, accumulation of fissure water, strength and integrity of the surrounding rock etc. Anchoring-grouting is an effective supporting method to strengthen fractured rock mass. In order to investigate the reinforcing mechanism of anchoring-grouting method to jointed rock mass, a model with several cracks is built, and the deformation behavior before and after grouting and installing bolt is investigated. Different anchoring methods are simulated to optimize bolt/cable installation. Finally, a tunnel in China's Huainan mining area is taken to determine efficient supporting methods for tunnels passing through dense faults. Improved supporting system is presented and implemented in experimental tunnel. The deformation of the tunnel is monitored and the results reveal that the application of the supporting system leads to significant performance enhancement.
