Abstract

There are many types of foundation in general, but in mining areas, where subsidence has an additional impact on building special engineering attention is needed. Salt mine exploitation in Tuzla, BiH, has induced subsidence in the urban center of Tuzla. In the last 50 years, the vertical movement of the terrain has reached. 13 meters to max. Old buildings are destroyed completely. Numerical methods have been used to analyze subsidence impact on foundation structure. In the paper is presented new and old buildings, damages at he old ones and foundation practice at the new ones. However, special founda-tion, as salt lake in center of subsidence area, as a primer, is presented. Special kinds of geotextiles had were to build foundations of the lake. By this opportunity, the center of Tuzla has been transformed from a mining to tourist zone.
