Abstract

Rockfall barriers are used for protection people and infrastructure (highways and railways) in mountain terrains. Adequate barrier systems are choosing depending on ground conditions (rocky material, roughness and damping), vegetation (forest, plants) and topography of terrain. Amount of measurements for ensuring and protection of rock slopes and instability blocks in upper part of moun-tain is radically reduced by installing the rock fall barrier in catchment zone at the bottom of the slope. The catchment zone is depending of space conditions, access (installation, maintenance) and ground conditions (foundation, anchoring). Simulations of rockfalls are carried out to obtain the height of the barrier and energy class of barrier. In most cases, the barrier systems are installed in mountain areas so the delivery of system components and assembling is very dangerous and demanding job. This paper describes major rockfall barriers projects in Croatia.
