During the longwall mining operations it is possible appearance of mining stoppage for a period of two or more days. Basing on experience each longer stoppage is being causing caving and extremely difficult restarting of the longwall mining operations. Analysis of stress redistribution in func-tion of time was performed for the longwall mining in lignite. Emphasising of this problem is also related to complex geology of rock massif in which mining is performed. The assessment of time that longwall face may be idle, was done by using finite elements nonlinear elastic-viscous-plastic analysis.
