Subject of this paper are geotechnical and geological survey of the tunnels in the karst and are based on actual data and events during investigation works for the tunnel "Sveti Ilija" through Biokovo. "Sveti Ilija" tunnel is located in Croatia in Dalmatia and connects Dalmatian hinterland and the coast from Zagvozd to Baška Voda. Specificity and uniqueness of this tunnel is in overlay thickness which in the central part is about 1300 m and of course the natural environment of the tunnel and that is the Dalmatian karst. The aim of this article is to present the mode of work and the method selection in the implementation of complex investigative work in specific conditions as at the location of the tunnel Sveti Ilija through Biokovo Mountain. Conducting these survey brought relevant geological and geotechnical information necessary to create a geotechnical tunnel design.
