Abstract

The Brazilian test is a testing method introduced independently by Carneiro and Akazawa, in 1943. Tensile strength, tensile elastic modulus, plastic modulus are measured by stress-strain curve recorded in testing specimen by Brazilian test. This article serves as show measured tensile elastic modulus and tensile plastic modulus of specimen in basalt zone of the Hoa Binh expansion hydropower project by Brazilian test. The result stress-strain curve recorded by DAQ system, Load cell, LVDT transducers part of the PEIC-Hercules-2000 testing system.

Introduction

The Brazilian test experiment was first introduced independently by professors Carneiro and Akazawa, in 1943 [1]. The Brazilian test method is an indirect method for assessing the tensile strength of materials such as concrete, stone, and similar materials. In the experiment, a cylindrical rock specimen was used to compress the diameter to failure. The four types of load diagrams used in the Brazilian test are shown below.
