Abstract

Borehole camera system has been used to investigate the direction (strike and dip) of cracks in the rock; observation and analysis of projection images and data of the borehole wall. There are several types of borehole cameras and the main difference among them is how to create each projection image. This study refers to creation of the projection images of the model borehole wall (bored test pieces made of cement with artificial cracks) using two types of borehole cameras for comparison: One is a camera using conical mirror (Borehole Image Processing System: BIPS) and the other is Forward Vision Camera System (FVCS). The result of the comparison has shown that FVCS is much more sensitive to eccentric errors of a camera/probe which bring distortion of images.
