Abstract

The drifter was developed to be used as ocean wave measuring system. Small spherical shape, similar to basketball, was designed to accommodate electronics modules such as processor, sensor, communication, and power. This system was consisted of accelerometer serving as ocean wave sensor, 8-bits microcontroller serving as central control of the whole system, wifi circuit responding for remote communication, and lead-acid batteries providing system power. The drifter performance was investigated in the wave tank, and the calibration process was carried out between the wave height data measured by drifter and the wave height data measured by wave probe technique. Some of data analysis was done to obtain the correction offset value for better measurement accuracy. After the experiment in laboratory was done, the prototype was deployed into the real environment for system testing.
