The influence of parameters on ship parametric rolling was analyzed by Poincaré map. Unlike the resonance excited when ?e/ ?n =1, parametric rolling can lead to much larger roll angle for container ships, roll- on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ships or pure car/truck carriers (PCTCs), making ship's crew feel uncomfortable and causing losses of cargos, engineer failures, structure failures, communication system failures and even capsize. The application of Poincaré map to the sensitivity analysis of ship parameters that can affect the parametric rolling was the emphasis of the present work. Ship speed was changed after the ship has encountered roll angle larger than 10 deg for three times and the influence of parameters was analyzed by Poincaré map. The distributions of roll angle and controlling time needed were analyzed by these maps corresponding to different ship motion parameters.
