For production risers which are applied by long-term wave loads, fatigue damage assessment is of great importance. However, the traditional computation process is either time-consuming for time-domain analysis method or not accurate enough for spectral method. In order to increase the efficiency of time-domain analysis method by reducing the number of computational sea states, one method of calculation for equivalent significant wave height and spectral peak period of a certain wave scatter block is proposed in this paper, and, correspondingly, some feasible guidelines are then investigated for the block lumping strategies. By this way, the fatigue damage of risers is computed in time-domain method with these calculated equivalent wave parameters and its effectiveness and accuracy are further validated by conducting a numerical model of steel catenary riser connected with a semi-submersible platform.
