Seafloor photographs of polymetallic nodule taken by deep-sea camera are used for the estimation of the abundance. Typically, empirical equations are used to calculate abundances. However, to date, shape of the size distribution, for example, the symmetry or skewness to characterize the distribution has not been taken into account, although this effect on the estimation is expected to be significant. The effect is examined in the present paper and the errors caused by the uncertainty of the shape of size distribution are calculated. As the results, the magnitudes of these relative errors decrease with L, and are within 10%.
