ABSTRACT:

According to project of transport connection of USA and Russia across Bering Strait the three designs are considered: dam. underground tunnel, bridge. In all this oases a human influence on environment is great and must be accounted for even now. The paper presents the estimated changes of ice movements in Bering Strait.

INTRODUCTION

The constant current in Bering Strait is directed from south to north and promotes to ice transference from the Bering Sea to the Chukohi Sea approximately 16000 oub. kIn 710 (Fedorova Z.P. and Yank ina Z.S, 1q61). Wind more often have an opposite action and cause an ioe motion from north to south (6000 out. km). A result of this summary actions is different dynamic conditions for ion over in the Dering Sea. In winter a south drift prevail over and multi-year Arotis sheets may come in the Bering Sea with danger for navigation. Ice transference from south to north across Bering Strait cause ice amount redound which is good for navigation. The every decades observation of ice over and the near ground barrio topography during 1961–1987 give an opportunity to estimate ice transference across strait.

THE FIELD OBSERVATIONS AND ANALYSIG PROCEDURE

An analysis is presented separately for current and wind. Aborting to data about currents (Arsenyev V.S., 1q67) the Dering Strait was divided into two parts: western with width 20 kin and eastern 60 km. The surface current velocity in western quarter was taken 0.05 mls of south direction and in other part 0.20 mls of north direction. A total flood transference through Strait is equal to zero. The ice thickness was evaluated accounting for quantity characteristics, age, ridge amount, density and width of Strait with ice cover.
