This article considers the factors of ship navigation safety and waterway service level, and creates a port waterway capacity calculation model based on queuing theory, obtaining the waterway capacity at all levels of waterway service level. The safety of ship navigation is ensured using the Fujii ship domain model, and the level of waterway service is based on traffic flow theory using ship density classification values. The main channel of Qinhuangdao Port was selected as the research object, and the channel throughput capacity of the main channel at various service levels was obtained. The main channel of Qinhuangdao Port can meet the current normal operation requirements of the port. The research results have important guiding significance for the operation and management of ports, and also provide strong basis for future waterway renovation and expansion.


A port waterway refers to a water area with sufficient width and depth to ensure the safe entry and exit of ships into the port. With the increasing volume of goods transported by waterway and the development of large-scale transport vessels, the entry and exit channels of some coastal ports have become bottlenecks that restrict port development. At present, when planning and designing port waterways, relevant port regulations only consider whether they meet the navigation scale requirements of the designed ship type, and fail to reflect the ability of the waterway as a transportation facility to divert waterway traffic and the operational quality of the ships navigating within it. The throughput capacity of port waterways is a measure of the traffic capacity of waterway diversion, and the service level of port waterways is an important indicator of the quality of ship operation in waterways. Conducting research on the throughput capacity and service level of port waterways can help ensure the service quality of waterways while fully utilizing the capabilities of waterway facilities, and more scientifically plan and design port waterways.
