Abstract

The submarine pipeline in earthquake prone area should consider the effect of seismic load, but the criteria of seismic design have not been formed around the world. Therefore, the numerical model of pipe-soil interaction is established based on linear elastic theory in hemi-indefinite space, in which the seabed and the pipeline are modeled with solid element and shell element respectively. Then the dynamic response under El-Centro wave is analyzed by ABAQUS and the effects of variable earthquake characteristic, coefficient of friction and buried depth of pipeline are discussed. The results present that longitudinal earthquake with acceleration higher than 0.10g shall not be ignored, the pipeline shall be buried with more than 2 meters deep and a loose to medium granular soil without cobbles or boulders shall be a suitable backfill material.
