Abstract

This paper experimentally examines wave forces acting on the submerged caisson foundations of pendulum wave energy converters, which are installed near Daguan Island, China. Two kinds of caisson shapes: circular cylinders and rectangular cylinders are tested. Each shape has four different sizes. The maximum horizontal and vertical wave forces acting on the caissons were obtained by integrating the pressure distributions along the model. In addition, the differences of wave forces and phase difference between rectangular and circular cylinders are clarified. This study shows, with the same cross section area, circular cylinder is better stability than the rectangular ones.
