Abstract

In recent years CNOOC research institute has developed a FLNG which will be used at South China Sea. In this study, the global performance of the FLNG at operation and offloading conditions are investigated by using numerical and experimental methods. The sloshing effects of liquid tanks are studied, the coupled hydrodynamic effects between FLNG and LNGC in offloading operation are analyzed and the effect of thruster is also evaluated.

The result shows that FLNG presented good sea-keeping and station keeping performance from both numerical and model test results. For the roll motion, the adverse loading condition is about 25% which may induce extreme sloshing effects. During the offloading process, the hydrodynamic interactions between two vessels are remarkably, and the thruster system can help FLNG adjust bow headings so as to decrease the relative motions between the two vessels.
