Abstract

The test method of the standard Kca test, so called temperature gradient type ESSO test, is one of the most popular test methods for evaluation of brittle crack arrest toughness. Test conditions which are specimen width, tab plate shape and applied stress affect brittle crack arrest toughness.

This document introduces effect of specimen width on brittle crack arrest toughness evaluation. In addition, Effects of tab plate length, thickness, width and applied stress have been investigated.

The applicable range of specimen width, tab plate shape and applied stress was clarified and implemented to the brittle crack arrest standard.
