Abstract
It is frequently argued that, due to climate change, occurring probability of large waves is increasing/In order to increase also the resistance of caisson breakwaters, we propose to add the base of the caisson some 2counterweight block". They are square artificial blocks, with a hole in the center, hosting rubble, to be placed behind the caisson. The rubbles in the hole are well interlocked with the lower rubble mound layer, and therefore effectively contribute to the sliding resistance of the caisson. A series of 3d experiment under irregular waves are carried out, testing different design configurations, and the best arrangement of counter weight blocks is discussed.
