Abstract

The constituent models for the morphological Yangtze Estuary model were investigated in this paper. Two methods, the decomposition method based on measurements and the assembling method by a process-based model were used to evaluate the mechanisms contributing to sediment transport around the mouth bar of the Yangtze Estuary. The result showed that besides discharge and tides, the density drive current (gravitational circulation) largely contributed to the sediment transport in the estuary. It is highly recommended that the morphological model of the Yangtze Estuary should include the salinity process with 3D simulation.
