In order to develop a hydraulic control system of Active Heave Compensator (AHC), the miniaturised apparatus is suggested and built. Hydraulic cylinders apply forces in the opposite of which a vessel heaves to cancel out heave motions. The apparatus is also intended that the motion of identical hydraulic cylinders are synchronised with acceptable rod position error of two cylinders, ensuring safety. The proposed hydraulic design of the control system is simulated and verified by specialised software, Automation Studio® 6, to demonstrate the performances with sinusoidal input waves. In the experiments, synchronisation and performances related to compensating tasks of the equipment are demonstrated.
