Abstract

The oil containment boom made by canvas is a kind of typical flexible structure. It will ruin when the towing speed is too fast. Stress and deformation plays an important role in working performance of oil containment boom. Analyses are conducted by finite element software "ANSYS" in this paper. A number of finite element models for a typical oil boom section are built up, selected the different working conditions, to verify structure's displacement, strain, stress and tensile strength under arbitrary wave-to-course angle. This study provides a more reasonable analytical method and gets some useful conclusions which will guides evaluation of oil containment boom system.
