ABSTRACT

This paper reviews a study on the design development of IMO Type-B independent LNG tank of high-manganese steel newly developed for the cryogenic circumstance. Shuttle LNGC has been investigated as a target vessel. Considering the structural characteristics of Type-B tank, the various engineering works such as 3D FE analysis for cargo tank, heat transfer and thermal loads analysis as well as crack propagation analysis were performed for the new material and new type vessel. Finally, based on the comparison of the results of these structural engineering with Aluminum Alloy, the applicability of high-manganese material would be evaluated.
