ABSTRACT

The run-up of single sinusoidal, solitary and N-waves is investigated. A pump-driven wave maker is applied that allows for the generation of extraordinary long waves. The applied wave forms firstly propagate over a horizontal bottom which is secondly attached to a plain, 1 on 40 sloping beach. The measured maximum wave run-up is subsequently compared to analytical run-up formula where in principle good agreement is found. Yet, the run-up of solitary waves compares less well. Generated N-waves are found to disintegrate soon after the wave maker during their propagation over the horizontal bottom.
