The vibration mechanism and phenomenon of two cylinder's VIV are more complicated than those of single cylinders as a result of the interaction between the cylinders. The paper designed a set of two cylinders with two degrees of freedom and experimental set of VIV models. A series of two side-by-side cylinders VIV experiments were carried out under different conditions of flow rate and spacing in the towing tank. The experiments showed that a certain center spacing ratio existed in two cylinders side-by-side arrangement. When the spacing ratio was less than the critical number, the dual-peak phenomenon would come out in lateral free vibration of two cylinders, and it would not happen when the spacing ratio was larger than the critical number.
