ABSTRACT
A small-scale circulation model was built based on POM (Princeton Ocean Model), covering the Yangtze Estuary, Hangzhou Bay and adjacent sea areas. Ocean circulation offered by the East China Sea circulation model was imposed at open boundaries of small-scale model. In order to study the anomalies, the Yangtze Estuary circulation during 2002–2003 was simulated. It shows that there is a relationship between the Yangtze Estuary circulation and ENSO events. During the warm period of ENSO events in winter, the Yangtze Estuary circulation gets weaker obviously, especially the Taiwan warm current. Runoff has strong influences on circulation at the mouth of the Yangtze Estuary and Hangzhou Bay.
