ABSTRACT

Vertical structure of the Tidal current in the Taizhou Bay adjacent sea are studied based on both the observations data of the tidal station from October 1 to November 30 of 2008 and the Estuary, Coast and Ocean Model (ECOM). When the tidal waves produced in the East China Sea enter Taizhou Bay, the tidal wave is gradually becoming standing wave reflected by the gulf. The tide type in the Taizhou Bay adjacent sea is regular semidiurnal tide, which is mainly influenced by the semidiurnal constituent M2 and S2. The tidal waves are both propagated from the East China Sea (ECS) to the Taizhou Bay, which doesn't constitute a complete and independent tidal wave system. The tidal amplitude of M2 is the largest, which is around 150cm. The strongest tidal flow of M2 is located at Jiaojiang Estuary in Taizhou Bay and up to 60cm/s. The strongest tidal flow of K1 is located at Aiwan Bay and up to 7cm/s. The form of the tidal flow in Taizhou Bay is reciprocating flow along the direction of the string of fan, which in the open sea outside the bay is rotating flow. The strongest surface residual flow in Taizhou Bay is around Xiadachen Island and up to 30-40 cm/s. The surface residual flow pattern is complex. Eight clockwise vortexes in different size and different strength are formed. The surface residual flow is relatively large and decreases with depth. Due to the strong tidal effect in Taizhou Bay, the water is more evenly mixed. The surface and bottom residual flow structure is consistent.
