The port of Jeju is weighted with rising of distribution costs because chronic on demurrage and situation of freight congestion come from deficiency of port approaching facilities. Also, it is expected that cargo quantity, domestic and foreign tourists may quickly expanded because of the increase of visa-free entry according to development of Jeju free international city. In addition, the unique culture of Jeju Island is enabling the island to be a very important tour place of north-east Asia. The island thus rises as the central axis of pan-pacific and south-east Asia. The development necessity of Jeju new port has become very influential according to the change of development condition, for example the foundation building of self-supporting economy of Jeju. The outer block facilities of Jeju new port consist of eastern breakwater and western breakwater. The construction of western breakwater for Jeju new port is to ensure a safe, efficient and economical waterfront. The dominant wave direction of the western breakwater of newly-established Jeju new port is NNW and NE. And the waves of both NNW direction and NE direction would induce the amplification of wave height at the entrance of existing the port of Jeju and the vicinity of ship route by being reflected from the western breakwater of Jeju new port. But, it was appeared that the amplification of wave height can be suppressed by the change of cross-section form of the breakwater, and it was reasonably judged to select the proper structural type to be a block one because the western breakwater length reaches 1.4km. The segment of whole breakwater length consists of horizontally composite type, curved slit caisson type and water exchange type.
