ABSTRACT

In ultra deep water fields when the produced oil shows unusual high values for the Wax Appearance Temperature (WAT) and for the Yield Stress, Extended Well Tests (EWT) are an important tool to investigate these flow assurance aspects.

To prevent fluid gelification in unplanned shut downs, operational procedures for EWTs with waxy oils should be elaborated through using transient simulations.

This work describes the studies performed in order to design operational procedures aiming to cope with the gelification during shut down. This was done following an innovative approach that resulted in different operational procedures.
